4th and 5th Grade Classes
4th and 5th grade classes begin music with drawing for a "stage manager" (popsicle sticks). The stage manager then asks the question of the day from the white board. Whoever answers correctly becomes the "stage crew" helper for the day.
We begin with an introduction of the skill (element of music) we are doing for the day.
Hands-on playing, singing, moving are then added.
If time allows, the last 10-15 minutes are used to play a game in class.
Last 5 minutes is "Tickets out the Door" (Miller $). I ask various questions about what was covered in class. Stage crew and stage manager take turns calling on various students for each answer. If correct, students earn a Miller $1.
6th Grade Classes
Explorations in Music (General Music) and 6th grade choir begin with Bell Work. Every student is given a folder to keep all of the bell work pages and worksheets in that are covered in class.
Choir begins with a vocal stretch and warm-up. Mondays, sight-singing; Tuesdays, history of songs that we are working on; Wednesdays, group work or recorded assignments given and done during class; Thursdays, Throwback Thursday! 1 or 2 students are asked to choose a video from the past and explain why they chose it and what it means to them; Fridays: Fun Friday (review games of concepts taught throughout the week).
